What do Polka Dot Plants look like?

This is a colourful herbaceous perennial. It grows up to 30cm and has brightly coloured variegated leaves. The leaves are usually dotted with dark green and the base colours are seen in varying shades of red, pink, lilac and white. If they produce flowers, it is best to remove these to encourage the plant to focus on producing vibrant foliage instead.

Where are Polka Dot Plants from?

Native to South Africa, Madagascar and south east Asia.

How to care for Polka Dot Plants

These plants require a tropical setting and prefer a warm, humid environment away from cool drafts.  Mist regularly, allowing the substrate to remain damp but not too wet. They do best under bright, indirect light making them ideal for adding colour to the bottom of a terrarium; use a full spectrum plant growth LED to aid colour and growth. Polka Dot Plants can be fed to encourage growth using a terrarium safe biofertiliser liquid made with Superworm Frass.
