What do Dalmatian Bellflowers look like?

This is an evergreen alpine perennial, low growing and mound forming plant. It grows to around 10cm high and if allowed, will spread to over 50cm wide in a dense mat. Although the name makes you think of ‘spots’ they have small heart shaped green leaves and deep purple, blue or white five petalled bell shaped flowers.

Where are Dalmatian Bellflowers from?

Native to rocky Dalmatian Mountains in Croatia.

How to care for Dalmatian Bellflowers

These plants will readily grow outside in the UK, they are extremely hardy and will thrive in well drained substrate in full sunlight, or grown indoors under full spectrum plant growth LED lighting in a vivarium. Regular pruning encourages growth, and any off-cuts can be fed to your reptiles. They can also be planted in Tortoise Tables and in grassland or more arid vivariums scattered with rocks. They can be fed using a terrarium safe biofertiliser such as Superworm Frass.
