What do Corn Plants look like?

These are a species of evergreen, slow growing trees. Wild plants can reach 50ft tall, though in a terrarium setting they usually only reach 4-6ft. The main stem is like a thick cane, which can be cut near the top if the plant becomes too tall;  leaves grow from the top like stalks of corn to form a canopy, hence their common name.

Where are Corn Plants from?

Native to tropical areas in Africa.

How to care for Corn Plants

These plants require a tropical setting and prefer a warm, humid environment away from cool drafts.  Mist regularly, allowing the substrate to remain damp but not too wet taking care not to saturate the soil. Take care to ensure it has equal parts light and shade by using a full spectrum plant growth LED to aid colour and growth. Corn Plants can also be fed to encourage growth using a terrarium safe biofertiliser liquid made with Superworm Frass.

The benefits of using Corn Plants
