What do Asparagus Ferns look like?

This scrambling perennial herb if left untrimmed can reach several metres in height, making it excellent for taller enclosures. Despite the name, this is not a true fern, though the soft feathery frond-like leaves resemble one. This plant is capable of producing small white-green bell shaped flowers which turn into small berries once they ripen.

Where are  Asparagus Ferns from?

Native to Southern Africa

How to care for Asparagus Ferns

These plants originate from a humid tropical rainforest environment, but don’t do well if the substrate is saturated. They do well in a loose, well drained soil with daily misting. They will happily live in partially shaded areas of a terrarium but thrive under full spectrum plant growth LED lighting as this aids colour and growth. They can be fed using a terrarium safe biofertiliser such as Superworm Frass.
