What do Maidenhair Vines look like?

This deciduous plant has thin wiry stems, covered in small dark green leaves. These leaves will drop over the winter period, but lush new growth will appear in spring. It will grow as a low ground-covering shrub up to around 40cm if left untrimmed, or if attached to vertical poles or branches, it will become a twining climber. It will produce small greenish-white flowers in the right conditions.

Where are Maidenhair Vines from?

Native to coastal, lowland and montane areas of New Zealand, also introduced to Australia, Mexico and America.

How to care for Maidenhair Vines

These plants prefer a tropical environment, but don’t do well if the substrate is saturated. They do well in a coir/soil mix, and prefer well lit areas of a terrarium, thriving under full spectrum plant growth LED lighting as this aids growth. They can be fed using a terrarium safe biofertiliser such as Superworm Frass.
