What do Hibiscus Plants look like?

This plant is cultivated worldwide for its big, bright flowers, often used to make herbal teas. The flowers are trumpet shaped, ranging from red, pink, peach, orange, yellow and blue colours and the leaves are broad, green and often variegated. If left to grow outdoors, this annual plant will become a beautiful bush/tree, blooming for an extended period with edible flowers for your reptiles.

Where are Hibiscus Plants from?

Native to China but now found in tropical areas all over the world.

How to care for Hibiscus Plants

These plants will readily grow outside in the UK, they are fairly hardy and will thrive during the summer months in moist substrate. Some species will be evergreen, whereas others may die back over the winter and return in spring. They do best in sunlight, or grown indoors under plant growth LED lighting in a terrarium. Regular pruning encourages growth, and any off-cuts (flowers and leaves) can be fed to your reptiles. They can also be planted in Tortoise Tables and in grassland vivariums scattered with rocks if kept well watered. They can be fed using a terrarium safe biofertiliser such as Superworm Frass.
