General: I've just found a Praying Mantis - What species is it?
You've found a species of Praying Mantis and your trying to find out what kind it is. We have now started to provide a listing of species that can be found throughout the world.
Each day, we receive many emailing asking Exotic Pets which species of Praying Mantis you have found in your back garden. With approx. 2,500 species, this is very difficult to say, but we have now found some site that may be able to help you identify them.

- Chinese Mantis - Tenodera aridifolia siniensis
- Narrow Winging Mantis - Tenodera angustipennis
- European Mantis - Mantis religiosa
- Mediterranean Mantis - Iris oratoria
- Carolina Mantis - Stagomantis Carolina
- Arizona Unicorn Mantis - Pseudovates arizonae
- Grass Mantis - Thesprotia graminis
- Brunner’s Mantis - Brunneria borealis (Females only!)
- Scudder’s Mantis - Oligonicella scudderi
- Yersin’s Ground Mantis - Yersiniops sophronicum
- Grizzled Bark Mantis - Gonatista grisea
If you would like to contribute some more species, please contact us stating which species (must have Latin name) and the area they can be found. We will keep updating this page so we can make a list of the species you can find all over the world.
